The Honeywell 38002 is an Enviracare Universal Replacement Pre-Filter designed to replace almost all makes and models of the HEPA Honeywell air purifiers pre filters.
If you own one of the Honeywell ‘Round’, Silent Comfort, or a Quiet Care air purifier series then the Honeywell 38002 should do the trick when you need a replacement pre-filter and if the filter doesn’t fit your purifier exactly because you have one of the, you can cut it and make it into 2-3 filters instead of just the one.
Essentially, the carbon pre-filter is what everything passes through before it enters the actually HEPA air filter which is more sensitive to the bigger airborne pieces, and costs more to replace, so by spending a few bucks on new pre-filters and replacing them about every three months or so, you’ll drastically increase the life expectancy of your delicate HEPA air purifier filter.

If you’re feeling ambitious, one of the things you can do to increase the efficiency of your pre-filters between the times in which you change them, is remove, and vacuum them with a brush attachment. This will remove any pet hair, dander, or other obstructions which build up between; if you replace your pre-filters every 3 months, you can vacuum them every 6 weeks.
Another one of the big benefits of keeping your Honeywell 38002 filters fresh, is the fact that they keep your air smelling clean and can actually remove lingering odors from rooms that you’re trying to improve the smell of.
As mentioned, these Honeywell 38002 Pre-Filters are sometimes too big for the smaller model air purifiers such as the 17000, but this is a bonus for you, because you can just cut along the perforation line in which case you end up with not one, but two full filters, so you should be just about covered for about 6 months.
Some people choose to buy the imitation or no-name replacement filters, but I wouldn’t recommend this route for anything really, just because you never know what you’re going to get with the imitations, and when they’re only about 5-10 bucks to begin with there’s not much point in buying outside of the Honeywell brand which you signed up for.
Installation for these units is very straight forward and takes all of 5 minutes; so easy, I let my 6 year old change them- seriously. All you have to do is remove the old filter, and wrap the new one around the HEPA filter; they attach with a velcro.
Because of their popularity, some people choose to order multiple boxes of these filters just to have them in the closet instead of having to order new ones all the time when they risk being sold out. Unlike the Honeywell 38002 units that should be changed every 3 months, your HEPA air purifier filter can be replaced once every 1-3 yrs and is determined by the environment it’s used in.
